  1. INTRODUCTION

  3.     Thank you for purchasing the Wide World of Mathematics Middle School CD-ROM. We hope you will enjoy the many features and facets of this application.

  5. INSTALLATION NOTES
  6. ---------------------------------------------
  7. 1) For best performance, we recommend that you configure your computer
  8.     using the following settings:
  9.  
  10.          - quit all other applications
  11.          - turn virtual memory off
  12.          - disable any RAM Disks
  13.          - disable any memory management applications such as RAM Doubler 
  14.          - turn File Sharing off
  15.          - make sure that you have the most recent versions of System files
  16.           such as QuickTime and Sound Manager
  17.  
  18. 2) While the Wide World of Mathematics application has the ability to run directly off of the
  19.     CD, your best performance will be achieved by running the main application off of a hard
  20.     drive. See the installation instructions for more information.
  21.  
  22. 3) The amount of memory currently allocated to this application (5,000kb) has been chosen 
  23.    for the optimal performance on a wide variety of Macintosh computers. If your system has 
  24.    more than 16 megabytes of RAM, increasing the memory allocation could provide better 
  25.    performance. Similarly, if you plan on running this application on the minimum machine 
  26.    configuration, we would recommend decreasing the memory allocation using the following 
  27.    steps.

  29.          - after copying the application to your hard drive select the WWM icon
  30.          - under the File menu, select Get Info
  31.          - at the bottom of the dialog box find the box for "Preferred Size"
  32.          - for machines with more than 16 mb RAM, set the value to "8000"
  33.          - for slower machines with low memory, set the value to "4500"
  34.        - close the window, and run the application as usual
  35.  
  36. 4) In some configurations, we have encountered a conflict with SAM¬ Intercept. If you are having problems running the program, turn off SAM¬ Intercept and restart your computer.
